BIG EAR pedals and the 60 Cycle Hum Podcast have come together to bring you WHAC-A! A boost pedal that probably should have just stayed an idea. (An idea that was originally conceived during a podcast recording several years ago.)
WHAC-A is stupid and impractical. So it only makes sense that it’s the brainchild of 60 Cycle Hum’s very own Ryan Burke! WHAC-A is NINE boosts in one. But WHAC-A is not just some niche pedal for a niche crowd. Oh no. This is a pedal for no one. A pedal that no one asked for and no one needs. But that’s the thing about life--it don’t make no sense!
The product box even looks like a board-game box and comes with a small wooden mallet! You know you want to play! But wait... nevermind.. this pedal is stupid.
WHAC-A has nine footswitches, each with their own indicator led, arranged in a grid on the face of the pedal. Each footswitch engages a boost circuit, which is the same circuit for each switch. The boost level cannot be changed without engaging additional boosts and there are no other knobs or switches on the pedal. You can use anywhere from one to nine boosts simultaneously, but the idea is to just stomp on the pedal and engage a random number of boosts each time...You never know what you’re gonna get...That’s what my mama always said! WHAC-A comes in a Gold-Sparkle enclosure with “WHAC-A” printed largely on the face of the pedal in typical BIG EAR-fashion. The front also features printed text along with 60 Cycle Hum’s logo.
The die-cast enclosure’s exact size is 4.6875” x 3.6875” x 1.375” (119mm x 94mm x 35mm) Power requirements are 9VDC with a 2.1 barrel connector (center negative) and the current draw is 31mA. The pedal weighs 15.6oz!
WHAC-A does not contain a battery snap and requires a 9v power supply with a 2.1mm barrel connector (negative center).
